Few weeks ago, I bought a couple of lightstands and umbrellas to be able to use my flash off the camera.

An evening last week, we did a very quick setup to take some Christmas pictures with Newton. We got him a Christmas hat and antlers from the dollar store for fun.

We were more than happy with the results, considering the small amount of preparation we used for this. I have setup a second flash unit, a very basic Vivitar 285HV manual flash for the background illumination.

Christmas 2008 Portraits

Sorry about the 2 weeks without news. I went to Mexico again last week for work and came back really sick this time around. I passed the last weekend in bed and I am just starting to feel a bit better. So I finally had time this evening to prepare some images from my quick jump in Quebec during the US thanksgiving last November. I was only there for 3 days in the middle of the week, so I did not do my usual ‘tour of friends’.

Near my parents house is the sky bridge for trains. I took a few pictures of it in a cloudy day.

Right next to it is the St-Felix church. This is where my uncle Michel got married last year. I took a few pictures at dusk.

On my last day there, I met with ‘Avo’, one of my friends who also do some photography as a hobby. We first stop at a secret spot where they feed birds in a small wood by the highway. We did not stay long and it was cold, so I only have a few pictures. The last one was a missed shot, but I find the effect interesting.

Finally, we also took a small photowalk at the end of the afternoon in the ‘Petit Champlain’ area of the Old Town. I did a few pictures with the Tone Mapped HDR technique:

Quebec, Nov 2008

Yesterday was actually very nice. There was a small snowfall and we went to Ojibway Park with our good friends Craig and Tracy and of course Trails!

We got there a little bit before them, and I could catch a few birds.

Snow Walk Ojibway

I often fly out of Detroit Metro Airport (DTW), but never took the time to photograph the ‘psychedelic tunnel’ that links concourse A with B&C of the McNamara terminal.

This light tunnel changes color constantly at the sound of some very disturbing music that makes a large use of percussions. While the experience is interesting, I am amazed that not more people get sick from passing there.

Either way, it turns out that it’s a fantastic photo opportunity. See some of the samples below.
