Seems that I am not lucky with my flights lately. Yesterday, our flight back from Florida was delayed by ~2 hours. So we got home quite late in the evening. It’s annoying because I was scheduled for a business trip in Europe the following day, leaving me very little time to organize everything.

Here we are, Monday evening, 10h45pm and I am still sitting in the Detroit Airport while my flight was supposed to leave at 7h15 pm.

First of all, I was not too happy because the plane we boarded earlier this evening was an old crappy airplane with no personal entertainment system. I have never been in such a plane for a transatlantic flight in like 6 or 7 years. Without movies, the flight can be unbearably long. Then I noticed the puky smell.. nice. Imagine a 8.5 hours flight..

At 7h10, we were all setup and ready to go when suddenly, heavy smoke came out of the vents, impairing vision: I could barely see the other side of the plane. After a few seconds, they made the emergency announcement to leave the plane while leaving everything in. Firefighter showed up. Looks like we had something like an electrical fire just minutes before leaving the gate. Quite reassuring…

After 45 minutes, after they decided it was safe to do so, they allowed us back in the plane by small groups to get our belongings. I am now waiting for a new departure at 1:00AM with a replacement plane(maybe!). Sounds like this trip will never end… At least I am using the wait to catch up on work emails and updating my blog…
